Invasive species that OC CISMA works on and prioritizes are broken down into three lists:
- Maintenance/focus species: species that are already established in our region that we are actively working on. There may be a higher risk to harm our regional ecology
- Priority species: early detection species that are either not found in Oakland County or found in low numbers, but are likely to cause harm if they become established
- Other species: species that may or may not be detected in Michigan and are considered a potential threat of establishment.
Correct identification of invasive species is an important first step. Visit each list page to see the complete list of species and links to species profiles. There you can learn to identify each species, how they affect the environment, and how you can control them.
Also check out the Resources page for helpful guides. Having trouble? Take several photos and Contact Us for help!
